Effective Professional Writing Program
These two 5-week online courses are led by one of the Tutorium’s highly trained ESL instructors. Students use a Net ID and password to log onto the course website and view assignments, listen to instructor lectures, join class discussions and access personalized feedback from the instructor on their writing.
Advanced Writing and Grammar Skills Course
Writing
effectively and accurately is a necessary skill in the academic
and professional worlds. This course focuses on learning
how to produce concise, clear and error-free writing at
the Intermediate to Advanced level. In this course,
instructors guide students through writing sample analysis,
discussion board posts and replies, and online lectures.
In this
course, students:
- write
and revise with attention to target elements
- participate
in “Knowledge Check” activities to review
and
- reinforce
targeted instruction
- submit
assignments for both instructor and peer feedback
- benefit
from instructor interaction throughout the course
- receive
individualized instructor feedback
By the
end of the course, participating writers
- effectively
communicate their ideas in a professionally written document.

both paragraph and document organization

fewer errors in advanced grammatical structures

weaknesses in their own and others’ writing

Introduction to Business Writing Course
Writing effectively in the business world
can sometimes be a challenge for non-native speakers of
English. This 5-week course teaches basic techniques
for writing successful letters, memos, emails, and reports.
Students study important sentence-level grammar and punctuation
rules and participate in online discussions with classmates.
Instructors give personal feedback on writing exercises
and guide the participants through an effective revision
process. Through these activities, students increase their
writing fluency, write more grammatically correct sentences,
and produce concise, clear, and error-free professional
documents.

When
and Where
Students use the Blackboard learning management system for
online assignments, discussions and feedback from the instructor.
By logging on with a password they will access assignments
and lessons, and communicate with classmates and their instructor.
