Writing effectively and accurately is a necessary skill in the academic and professional worlds. This course focuses on learning how to produce concise, clear and error-free writing at the Intermediate to Advanced level.  In this course, instructors guide students through writing sample analysis, discussion board posts and replies, and online lectures.

In this course, students:

  • write and revise with attention to target elements
  • participate in “Knowledge Check” activities to review and
  • reinforce targeted instruction
  • submit assignments for both instructor and peer feedback

  • receive individualized instructor feedback

By the end of the course, participating writers

  • effectively communicate their ideas in a professionally written document.
  • improve both paragraph and document organization
  • make fewer errors in advanced grammatical structures
  • identify weaknesses in their own and others’ writing
  • be better prepared for continued self-study and improvement in writing

Introduction to Business Writing Course

Writing effectively in the business world can sometimes be a challenge for non-native speakers of English.  This 5-week course teaches basic techniques for writing successful letters, memos, emails, and reports.  Students study important sentence-level grammar and punctuation rules and participate in online discussions with classmates. Instructors give personal feedback on writing exercises and guide the participants through an effective revision process. Through these activities, students increase their writing fluency, write more grammatically correct sentences, and produce concise, clear, and error-free professional documents.

  • improve the processes of organizing, editing and revising your writing.
  • work on improving writing fluency through threaded discussions
  • learn to use proper professional formatting features
  • improve sentence-level grammar and punctuation use
  • practice writing business letters, memos, emails, and short reports
  • reinforce your skills through a series of self-study activities
