Public Service Activities
Center for Molecular Biology of Oral Diseases
The center was established to increase understanding of the pathobiological basis of disease and to help develop therapies for alleviating illness and enhancing the quality of life. Center faculty work with colleagues in other units at UIC, other universities nationally and internationally, and with industry. Education is one aspect of the center's activities; students are trained by center faculty. In addition to training UIC graduate, undergraduate, and professional students, the center accepts some non-UIC undergraduate students as summer research trainees. Opportunities are available for high school students to have year-round research experience working with center members.
A new initiative is being pursued for understanding the relationship of stress in molecular terms to the urban environment.
