Bush Revitalized: Planning and Design Solutions
for a Revitalized Bush Community
Fall 2001
This interdisciplinary studio developed a land use plan and prototype
infill housing designs for the Bush area of the South Chicago neighborhood.
The studio's client was the Southeast Chicago Development Commission (SCDCom).
The plan included affordable housing proposals, infill housing design
guidelines, proposals for the large-scale mixed use redevelopment of the
USX site and for the reuse of the USX ore walls as a multi-use community
facility, an open space plan, and a capital improvements plan.
The students developed a formal plan document, a PowerPoint presentation
summarizing the plan, a 3' x 8' scale model of the USX ore wall, redevelopment
proposal, a draft brochure on housing maintenance resources available
through SCDCom, and prepared formal presentation boards outlining the
plan elements and affordable housing designs (with cost estimates for
each structure).
