"Green" Workshop
University of Illinois at Chicago, December 18,
2001
One of the common misconceptions about energy efficient and environmentally
friendly buildings is that they are by definition more expensive than
developments that do not pay close attention to "green" issues.
The Chicago Community Loan Fund (CCLF) has developed a Green Guide in
order to educate the wide range of groups involved in building affordable
housing about the ways in which developments can be both environmentally
sustainable and affordable.
In order to mark the launching of their Green Guide, the CCLF held a
half-day workshop co-sponsored by the City Design Center and the School
of Architecture. The workshop provided detailed information regarding
green building materials and processes; promoted networking amongst architects,
contractors, consultants, and lenders with expertise in green building;
and described private and public resources and programs that can be used
to write-down the costs of building green.
