Neighborhood Impact Studies
Spring 1999
Evaluation of the impacts of community development corporations and
housing organizations in Chicago neighborhoods is increasingly important
to understanding the effectiveness of these organizations in housing development
and community revitalization efforts. These organizations want to know
if and how their development activities are impacting home prices and
investment patterns in their neighborhoods, including direct investments
and production of housing units. To this end, the Voorhees Neighborhood
Center and the Great Cities Institute are working with The Resurrection
Project and Neighborhood Housing Services to assess their impact on the
social fabric of Pilsen and the communitys capacity to publicly
act in its own interest. The Voorhees Center is also working with these
two organizations to assess the impact of their housing activities in
the Pilsen and Little Village communities. Specifically, it is studying
the changes in lending patterns and in home sale volume and prices resulting
from the community organizations revitalization efforts.
