Revitalizing Commerce in Pilsen: Commercial Redevelopment
Feasibility Study
1997
Eighteenth Street Development Corporation, in its commercial development
initiative to rehabilitate existing buildings for new retail businesses,
seeks to create opportunities for new retail activity to complement existing
businesses. A student intern, working at the ESDC under the supervision
of an architecture faculty member, analyzed adaptive reuse options and
rehabilitation costs for several candidate buildings. This work built
on an earlier study for the City Design Center that assessed market and
financial feasibility of the project. The City Design Center is continuing
to work with ESDC as it moves forward to acquire a building to rehabilitate
for a new tenant.
