The Sustainable Coastal Development for Southern Lake Michigan
conference brought together Illinois and Indiana citizens and organizations
to consider research and educational programs that are necessary to promote
sustainable economic development on the southern coast of Lake Michigan.
The conference focused on five general topics: Coastal Economic Development
Opportunities; Infrastructure and Siting of New Facilities; Open Space
and Recreational Opportunities; Ecosystem Capacity for Economic Develop-ment;
and Bi-State and Regional Coordination of Development. Recommendations
developed by conference participants as well as papers presented on the
five general topic areas were used by Illinois-Indiana Seagrant to focus
its research grants and education efforts.
