Untitled Project: Dumpster

Conrad Bakker's Untitled Projects investigate the production of space and capital while exposing economic patterns.   For Untitled Project: Dumpster , a handmade dumpster, carved out of wood and painted orange, installed on Gallery 400's plaza. The object's primary function was to act as an architectural marker - "an empty container of strange promise" - that revealed to passersby the relationship that exists between the building at which the dumpster is sited and the people that utilize that building on a daily basis.   The temporary status of Gallery 400's current location, as well as the ongoing construction and renovation that occurs on the UIC campus, contributed to the contextual interpretations of this object.
