Wallinger is an artist whose work is noted for its explorations of class, nationalism, belief and death. Ecce Homo, perhaps his most noted sculpture, is a life-size sculpture of Christ that sat upon a plinth in Trafalgar Square, London in 1999. His latest work, State Britain, 2007, addresses anti-protest laws drafted in 2005 for central London by recreating in full detail the signs and accoutrements of Brian Haw's peace protest in front of the Houses of Parliament, which was confiscated by police in 2005.

Mark Wallinger has been nominated for the Turner Prize in 1995 and again in 2007. His recent solo exhibitions include Tate Modern, London; Neue National Galerie, Berlin; and Anthony Reynolds Gallery, London. Wallinger has a new exhibition that opens November 16, at Donald Young Gallery in Chicago.
