The intuitive space provided when material is translated from one medium into a different medium is of paramount importance for visual and sound artist Steve Roden. He translates various types of notation, be they words, music, compositions, spaces, photographs or maps into scores which form the basis of his paintings, drawings, sculptures, films/videos, sound installations, and performances.

Based in Los Angeles, Roden’s recent solo shows and projects have been presented at Geluidpost at Lokaal01, Breda, Netherlands; Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery, NY; Studio La Citta Gallery, Verona, Italy; and the McBean Gallery, San Francisco Art Institute.
