Carlos Amorales moves fluidly between video, performance, installation and animation, continually highlighting the complex and dynamic relationship between subjectivity and pop-culture. His work incorporates a range of cultural archetypes and popular graphic icons to critically examine the place of performance and ritual in contemporary life. His most recent projects have stemmed from a personal archive of digital drawings that allow Amorales a prescribed territory within which, and yet infinite possibilities with which, to create his works.

Amorales graduated from the Rijksakademie van Beelende Kunsten in Amsterdam. He has exhibited widely throughout the U.S., Mexico and Europe and has recently been included in exhibitions at RedCat, Los Angeles; Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin; and the 2003 Biennale di Venezia. His performances have been featured at SFMOMA; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and Tate Modern, London. Amorales is also co-owner of the Mexico City-based record label, Nuevos Ricos. He lives and works in Mexico City.
