  •
  • Bed height will impact the process of transferring w/c to bed. Bed height can be manipulated by using blocks, bricks, or a custom built base. An electric bed would be a more costly alternative.
  • Floor space is limited, but a small shelf might be installed near the bed to store items so that Tom does not have to transfer unnecessarily to retrieve items at night.
  • Dresser handles should not require strong grip to open drawers. Small knobs and handles, or drawers which open by finger tips insertion into drawer frame, would be poor choices. Fitted sheets might also be difficult to use due to grip limitations..
  • Closet width is sufficient to allow access which may be required in deep closets. If additional width is required swing away hinges can be installed on closet doors.
  • Closet light should have long cord due to reach restrictions.
  • Depending on clothes volume, 2 closet rods could be installed. A higher rod for longer garments at approximately 54" and a lower rod at 36".
  • Adjustable closet shelves offer more flexibility than wall mounted shelves. Rods can be hung from the bottom of shelves to save space.
  • Interior bi fold closet doors would swing away from, rather than into the user.another alternative for larger closets is bipassing doors. They should have slot handles to allow the whole hand access and not limit door opening space.
  • If closet is walk-in style a turning radius of 60" is required with an entry of 32" wide.
