- Aisles between furniture allow adequate space for w/c usage.
- Tile is more durable than carpet and is easier to propel w/c over.
- Computer station must have adequate knee space.
- Higher shelves may be unreachable for w/c user.
- Tight weave carpet requires less force to propel w/c as compared to thicker living room carpet.
- Exit to deck could have a built up or loop style handle on sliding glass door.
- Light switches should be mounted lower to enable w/c users easier access. Large rocker switches require less force for activation and present a larger target than standard toggle switches. Touch sensitive light switches would also be a possible alternative.
- Throw rugs may impede w/c progress.
- Electrical outlets can be mounted higher for w/c users to decrease the bending requirements for plugging in devices..
- Telephone should have large buttons for easier dialing and a shoulder rest for hands free operation. A speaker phone would be an alternative.
