Dr. Hammel's scholarly interests include studying the effectiveness of assistive technology service delivery, training, and usage: work reentry and adjustment: consumer advocacy and empowerment; qualitative exploration of life role development and competence; and functional assessment and outcomes research. Dr. Hammel teaches in the areas of neurological interventions and assistive technology.

Dr. Hammel is the principle investigator, main contact, and developer of this project.


Deborah Walens, MHPE, OTR/L, FAOTA

Ms. Walens holds a master's degree in health professions education and is the coordinator of clinical education in the occupational therapy program at UIC. She has extensive background in clinical education and supervision, and clinical expertise in the area of psychosocial dysfunction. Her research interests focus on effective interviewing as a part of clinical assessment; clinical education; and the foundational skills needed for development of therapeutic use of self and clinical reasoning.

Ms. Walens is the co-investigator of this project.

Troy is a graduate student working with Dr. Hammel and Ms. Walens as a graduate assistant on this project. Troy is the author/editor of the network website. Troy also assists with troubleshooting and training on the center's computer.
