About the Molecular Biology Consortium

The Molecular Biology Consortium (MBC) is a nonprofit corporation, incorporated in the states of Illinois and California, dedicated to basic and applied research in biological science and synchrotron technology. The MBC was founded over two years ago to further high-throughput analysis of biomolecular and subcellular structures. The Consortium is headquartered in the Illiniois Medical District in Chicago, and it has additional facilities in Berkeley, California.

SYNCHROTRON BEAMLINE
Under the leadership of Dr. Edwin Westbrook, The MBC has been responsible for construction of beamline 4.2.2 at the Advanced Light Source in the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory . This beamline generates high-quality structural molecular biology information, to solve structures that are important for our understanding of life processes at the molecular level.

LABORATORY OF SUPRAMOLECULAR STRUCTURE
The major research focus of the laboratory of supramolecular structure is the development of computer algorithms for analysis of macromolecular assemblies visualized by electron microscopy. At the light microscope level, the laboratory has developed algorithms to quantify motile responses of single cells to time-resolved stimuli.
