CBA Highlights
- Liautaud MBA team HeartSounds, Inc. beat out teams from Northwestern University, the University of Chicago and UIC to win the recent Biomedical Business Plan Competition.
- OrthoAccel, a start-up venture founded by a team of Liautaud MBA graduates, received a Texas Emerging Technology Fund of $750,000 and the 2007 Michael E. DeBakey Life Science Award, which recognizes the Texas life science companies with the highest potential to commercialize an important product.
- Professors Frank Chaloupka and John Tauras were selected to be editors/lead authors on different sections of the 2010 Surgeon General's Report on Youth Smoking. Professor Tauras will be the editor/lead author of the Regulatory Approaches section of the report, while Professor Chaloupka will be the editor/lead author of the Tobacco Industry Influences on Youth Tobacco Use chapter.
- Professor Bob Chirinko has been visiting the European University Institute in Florence and recently presented his research at several seminars overseas, including: "Stock Market Misvaluation And Capital Misallocation: A Revealed Preference Approach" at the Banque de France; "Tax Competition Among U.S. States: Racing to the Bottom or Riding on a Seesaw?" at the CESifo Public Sector Economics conference in Munich and at the University of Bergamo; "The Irreversibility Premium," at a conference on The Economics of Imperfect Markets in Rome.
