DESCRIPTION OF INROADS:
INROADS gives you the skills and access you need to land a paid internship at a top company. Through our unique development experience, you will be ready to contribute from Day 1, with the confidence you need to succeed! Most likely you have already applied to INROADS, completed your Candidate Prep Session and have now become and "INROADS Candidate" - which is the term that describes a student who is ready to compete for an INROADS Internship. Here's a review of the process.

CANDIDATE PREP SESSION: The INROADS Candidate Prep Session (CPS) is a training workshop designed to enhance corporate readiness and provide applicants with an understanding of INROADS and our corporate sponsors' expectations. This training included a series of sessions to introduce candidates to the benefits and responsibilities expected of INROADS Interns while building skills to prepare them to market themselves effectively in corporate interviews.

PHASE ONE: After an application is submitted and accepted, candidates are contacted by an INROADS staff representative who reviewed the information, verified eligibility, and registered or invited candidates to a CPS. The CPS includes fundamental training on the history of INROADS, resume building and impression management, then it concludes with candidate mock interviews to prepare candidates to interview with an INROADS sponsoring company.

NOTE: The verification process may have also included a request for your resume, unofficial transcript and candidate assessment if they were not already uploaded with the application. College Juniors are also often asked to submit a Degree Audit or Degree Plan, which can be obtained by an Academic Advisor.

PHASE TWO: Upon completion of the CPS and receipt of all required documents, candidate resumes are then finalized. INROADS works with candidates to ensure that resumes meet the INROADS standard format as illustrated on our website.

PHASE THREE:Upon completion of the CPS, collection of all documents, and finalization of the resume, the candidate's application is moved to a "Match Ready" status. Match Ready simply means the candidate is prepared to interview with a corporate sponsor who has an internship opportunity available, meets the position's career interest and skills requirements, and is a good "fit" for the student and sponsor. During phase three, candidates are assigned to an INROADS Manager to discuss potential internship opportunities.

QUOTES FROM AN INROADS INTERN

1. How do you feel about interning for your company?
I love working at PricewaterhouseCoopers! My managers and coworkers keep me busy with work that is relevant to the area and they are also very eager to answer any questions I have about my position. During the school year they send me study kits to keep me focused and stay in contact with me until my next internship.

2. How do you like INROADS and how has it helped you thus far?
I love INROADS! I have met so many people that I never would have, were it not for INROADS. They have given back exactly what I have put in - and I truly owe a lot to this organization. They helped me, not only with corporate leadership, but leadership at my school, in my education, and in extracurricular activities. I believe my advisors have helped me the most because I know they are always available for me whether through email, one-on-one meetings, or telephone. Also, INROADS has strengthened my confidence in public speaking through the Saturday training sessions.

3. What are some things you've done as an Intern that you wouldn't have done were you not with INROADS?
I have been able to do more public speaking and I've also been able to network with people outside of INROADS to get them involved in this great organization. Above all else, however, I believe the answer is the Internship itself. Before INROADS, I tried finding an internship on my own and it was very difficult! I visited many websites, but the search was long and tedious, therefore, I thank INROADS for the ease of obtaining a quality Internship!

Joyia Johnson is an Intern at PricewaterhouseCoopers and she is majoring in Accounting at the University of North Texas.
