CBA Achievements and Awards

  • The HeartSounds team, comprised of Liautaud MBA students Matt Norris, Amir Bastawrous and Mike McCoy, won the highly prestigious NASA Earth/Space Life Science Innovation Award at the Rice University Business Plan Competition. The award, which was given out for the first time this year, was presented to the team because its business plan “presents a life sciences technology which has an application to both the NASA space life science program and to Earth-based activities.”

  • A team of undergraduate student entrepreneurs, including Andrew Stover, Aaron Miles, Joel Villegas, Robert Ryan Brandys and Darnell Shields, took second place in the Illinois Institute of Technology 2008 Innovation Chase Competition.

  • Tom Bothen, associate director of the Center for Urban Real Estate, was recently in Moscow studying its local real estate market and was invited by the Russian Guild of Realtors to teach a five-day finance and market analysis class to 60 of its members.

  • Professor George Karras presented his paper titled "Growth and Convergence since 1950: What Can We Learn from the Solow Model?" at the recent MORS Conference on Emerging Markets held at the Argonne National Laboratory. The paper investigates the determinants of income per capita and economic growth for a sample of 99 countries and asks whether they converge to a similar standard of living.

  • The UIC chapter of the American Marketing Association won the National Collegiate Chapter Plan award at the 30th Annual American Marketing Association's National Conference and Competition held in New Orleans.

  • Professor Mary Brown was among the 12 people on the UIC campus selected to receive a 2008 INSPIRE Award. The INSPIRE Award, given by the University of Illinois Alumni Association, is the second phase of the WOW Award Program and recognizes outstanding service at UIC by those who embody the university's core values: Integrity, Nurture, Service, Pride, Intellect, Respect, Excellence.

  • Abel Galvan from the accounting department was presented with a WOW Award. The award was established in 2005 by the UIC Alumni Relations Council to recognize those who make an exceptional effort to build relationships with students, faculty, alumni, staff and visitors.
