Story: Kim Oster-Holstein and Scott Holstein will tell their story first hand of a Husband and Wife team of Entrepreneurs starting a now soaring pretzel business that took off in the mid 90's in Chicago. They now sell 500,000 pretzels a week through 15,000 grocery stores and employ 80 people. They have a strong positive value based culture who does well at doing good. They give to many charities as seen with their Pretzels with a Purpose programs. They are an inductee to the UIC Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame.

Vienna Beef was founded in Chicago in 1893 and is still located in Chicago and probably more identified with the city
than any other company. Bob Schwartz, a 40 year executive with Vienna, will be speaking about being an international
company based out of Chicago. Bob will also be talking about the Hot Dog stands of Chicago. Bob's book about the
unique stories of Chicago entrepreneurs and their Hot Dog stands has received national attention both for its humor and
the lessons learned.
A panel discussion about best practices and the future of Social Networking
This meeting/presentation is intended to provide UIC alumni, friends and colleagues with the opportunity to learn how to utilize Social Networking and Media to improve their business and understand where this relatively new phenomenon is headed.
We will be honored to have Jeff Willinger a noted speaker around the country on the impact of Social Networking on todays and future business practices. He has turned Facebook and Twitter into money making applications building a pipeline of one million dollars through networking and building business relationships online. We will also have Rachel Yeomans of the workingwardrobe.com who will be sharing social media successes.

The 2016 Olympics, is scheduled for January 27, 2009 at the Metropolitan Club.
The focus of the event is to discuss the marketing aspect of the Olympics. Attendees will learn about how the Chicago Olympic 2016 Committee has been marketing the city to the international Olympic Committee and their marketing efforts to generate local support. Discussion will also include the economic impact on Chicago.

The BAA toured the UIC Forum, a new building on the south side of campus. Tom Bothen, associate director of the UIC Center for Urban Real Estate, presented the keynote for the event at New West Realty's Ivy Hall and panelists responded. The panel included Ted Mazola, co-founder of New West Realty and former alderman; Vincent Forgione, president of New Frontier Real Estate Development Inc.; and, Mike Landek, UIC associate vice chancellor for student affairs (under whose jurisdiction the Forum falls and who was instrumental in organizing community support for such south campus developments).

Following a tour of Christy Webber Landscapes, the BAA and our guests listened to a panel of experts respond to a keynote presentation by Ginger Zee from NBC Channel 5 News. After Zee's presentation, hosted at the Chicago Center for Green Technology, she moderated the panel discussion and field questions from attendees. Panelists included Ori Sivan, president and co-founder of Greenmaker; Christy Webber, president and founder of Christy Webber Landscapes; and, a Representative from the City of Chicago's Department of Environment.
