The Department of Economics also participates in the Ph.D. in Business Administration through the business economics area of inquiry. 

Admission Literacy
Student must satisfy the mathematics/ statistics, computing/ analysis and business literacy, and business literacy admission requirements as detailed in the general information section of Ph. D in Business Administration at CBA web site. Econ 501: Microeconomics I and Econ 511: Macroeconomics I will be excluded from this requirements since they should be substituted for Econ 520 and 521 in the MBA core. In addition, students who plan to major in Economics must take two additional courses in economics to satisfy the MBA economics concentration . These courses can be chosen from any 500-level economics courses not used to satisfy other requirements except Econ 520, 521, 540, 541, 592, 593, 598, and 599. (Course description

Research Methodology: 2-4 courses (8-16 semester hours)
Economics candidates are required to take the economics research methodology sequence; Econ 534 and Econ 535. Econ 534 is offered in the fall and Econ 535 is offered in the spring semester. Other courses work in research methodology may be required and is chosen under the guidance of the Ph. D coordinator or advisor. 

Economics Specialization : 6-8 courses (24-32 semester hours)
The business economics specialization courses should be selected in consultation with the student advisor from the following courses: Econ 502: Microeconomics II Econ 512: Macroeconomics II Econ 436: Introduction to Mathematical Economics Econ 536: Advanced Mathematical Economics Econ 592: Workshop in Economics Two fields specialization, one of which must be in economics, consisting of at least two courseseach must be chosen in consultation with the student's advisor. Courses can be chosen from 500-level courses in economics except Econ 520, 521, 540, 541, 592, 593, 598, and 599. (Course description)

Additional Doctoral-level Course Work, Including Dissertation: at least 8 courses ( 32 semester hours minimum)
Econ 599: Ph. D Thesis Research or additional doctoral-level course work chosen with the consent of the Ph. D coordinator and in consultation with the dissertation advisor. A maximum of 32 hours of thesis research credit can be applied toward the degree.

Other Course Restrictions
Economics 520, 521, 540, and 541 may not be used to satisfy any degree requirements. No more than 16 semester credits received in Econ 592, 596, 597, and 598 may be used to satisfy degree requirements. 

Sample Program

· First Year : Core courses in business and economics theory.

· Second Year : Econometrics sequence. Begin field course work. Qualifying exam in economics theory.

· Third Year : Complete field course work. Preliminary exam in field of specialization. Formulate dissertation proposal. Begin Dissertation.

· Fourth Year : Dissertation research and defense.
