Professor ReJin Guo presented "Undoing the Powerful Anti-Takeover Force of Staggered Board" at the International Conference on Corporate Governance at Fu-Jen University in Taiwan on November 3, 2005. The paper is joint work with Tim Kruse and Tom Nohel at the University of Arkansas and Loyola University, respectively.

Oleg Bondarenko is an invited speaker at the IXIS/NYU Stern Banking Conference Series on Hedge Funds, September 30, 2005. He will be presenting, "The Market Price of Variance Risk and Performance of Hedge Funds".
Mathematical Finance, whose founding editor was Stan Pliska, has been ranked the third most influential journal in Finance
The journal was also ranked #12 in a list of 172 journals in Economics. In addition to founding the journal, Prof. Pliska served as its chief editor until 2001.
Stan Pliska will be the keynote speaker at the Brazilian Finance Association conference, July 18-19, in Sao Paulo.
Prof. Re-Jin Guo presented, "Self-Selection in Decision to Withdraw IPOs", at the Third NTU International Conference on Economics, Finance and Accounting, National Taiwan University, May 19-21, 2005. The paper, a joint work with Rong Chen and Ming Lin, received the "Best Paper Award" from the Conference.
From early May to the mid-July, Stan Pliska will be the Rothschild Visiting Professor at Cambridge University, England. This appointment will be in conjunction with the Developments in Quantitative Finance" program at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences.

Prof. Jae Sung's Investments class FIN 500 has been recognized as Crain's one of the "In a Class by Themselves" courses see page 35. It is one of only five courses from MBA programs in Chicago that are "the most difficult yet grudgingly admired classes in the curriculum".
Hsiu-lang Chen and Russell Wermers had their paper, "Style Migration and the Cross-Section of Average Stock Returns", presented at the spring conference of INQUIRE UK and Europe held in Dublin, Ireland, on March 13-15, 2005.

Re-Jin Guo presents, "Analysts' Selective Coverage and Subsequent Performance of Newly Public Firms" at the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) in Washington on February 8, 2004. The paper is joint work with Accounting Professor Somnath Das and Huai Zhang.
Re-Jin Guo will present the paper, Analysts' Selective Coverage and Long-term Performance of Newly Public Firms at the 2004 National Taiwan University International Conference in December 2004. Her co-authors are Somnath Das and Huai Zhang. The paper received the outstanding paper award from the conference.
Stan Pliska is the Organizer of the Third Congress of the Bachelier Finance Society meeting July 21-24 in Chicago. The Bachelier Society is an international organization of scholars in Mathematical Finance. The Congress is the premier international event in Mathematical Finance for 2004. The Society meets every two years, most recently in Crete in 2002. This year's conference will take place from Wednesday, July 21st until Saturday, July 24th, with a closing dinner at the Inter Continental Hotel.
UIC's Finance department will team with experts from the International Monetary Fund in Washington and the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, as well as Citigroup New York, Morgan Stanley China and KPMG Beijing to offer two weeks of lectures and hands-on training for China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE). The visit by thirty officials from SAFE anticipates the opening of China's financial markets to foreign investors. With one of the largest MBA programs for Chinese government and private enterprise managers, UIC enjoys entrée to Beijing that facilitates connections with Chicago businesses and Exchanges. The China State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) delegation will be in Chicago through July 2, 2004.
