Center for Research in Information Management

The Center for Research and Information Management cooperates with businesses, industry and government in such fields as systems analysis, operations and production management and data analysis.

CRIM supports research in the management and use of information resources, with emphasis on the strategic and organizational use of information. It serves as a center for disseminating information on developments in information technology to the business community. The center is expanding its mission to reach out to more technology fields to become a resource of information for students, professionals and researchers.

Mission
Promoting the interchange of knowledge of the theory and practice of information management among the university, business community, and governmental and non-for-profit agencies. The UIC College of Business Administration is committed to creating innovative programs to serve the needs of metropolitan Chicago.

As part of this mission, the Center for Research in Information Management was established to promote links and coalition-building among the university, the business community, and governmental and not-for-profit agencies in the theory and practice of state-of-the-art information management. CRIM's activities include:

Research in the significance and management of information resources, emphasizing the strategic application of knowledge, approaches and techniques to serve as a foundation for improved implementation in the business, government and not- for-profit sectors.

Service to the metropolitan Chicago community through dissemination of current knowledge about information management by means of seminars, workshops, roundtable discussions, informal executive briefings, technical papers and reports, corporate continuing education and other appropriate methods.

Collaboration with local leaders in information management and/or technology and College of Business Administration faculty to identify emerging critical issues, undertake joint activities, and provide input for continuous improvement of the college's academic program.

Stimulating the intellectual growth of College of Business Administration students in the theory and practice of information management through their direct participation in center activities and through internships at CRIM partner firms, as well as by encouraging the exchange of executives-in-the-classroom and professors in the workplace.

Membership
There are two levels of membership that carry an annual fee:

  • Strategic Industry Partner ($6,500 per year)
  • Industry Associate ($3,000 per year).

General Benefits:

  • The opportunity to attend and be recognized at the annual fall and spring CRIM Student Project Expo and reception with students
  • Exclusive access to CRIM library - IDS research papers, reports, white papers and presentations
  • Priority opportunity to be an expert speaker in IDS classes and courses, as appropriate
  • Priority opportunity to be a guest speaker at student organizations and events, as appropriate

Strategic Industry Partner - $6,500/year
Benefits include the following:

  • Membership on Advisory Board (two meetings per year)
  • Access to IDS Student Project Teams - IDS Student Project Team to work on a semester-long, custom project for your company. The project will have specific deliverables defined by your company. The students are enrolled in the capstone class for their IDS degree.
  • Networking Benefit - Opportunity to attend CRIM Quarterly Best Practices Meetings (lunch or dinner), may bring a guest
  • Invitations to at least two prominent UIC events (e.g., research seminars, workshops, colloquia, and student activities)

CRIM Industry Associate - $3,000/year
Benefits include the following:

  • Networking Benefits - Opportunity to attend CRIM Quarterly Best Practices Meetings (lunch or dinner), may bring a guest
  • Invitations to at least two prominent UIC events (e.g., research seminars, workshops, colloquia, and student activities)

The primary benefit of CRIM membership is gaining early access to the "best and the brightest" of the student population in information and decision sciences at UIC. Through internships, companies can observe a student's performance firsthand and also aid in his/her development. CRIM members are also involved in student presentations of class projects and have informal access to students through a variety of networking activities. Further member benefits include:

  • Apply innovative research to the most prevalent concerns for CIOs today.
  • Provide CRIM members access to the most educated and knowledgeable students in the area of MIS.
