Professor Liotine is a clinical faculty member at UIC’s Graduate School of Business. He brings over 30 years of industry and academic experience to UIC. He has taught a wide variety of professionals including managers and executives from various industries, CEOs, government and military officials, leading physicians and health professionals, and even a Nobel Prize winner. He is also a faculty member at UIC’s School of Public Health, where he directs a certificate program in business continuity and emergency management. He was also formerly an adjunct faculty member at DePaul University and New Jersey Institute of Technology. In prior roles, he was as Associate Vice President at Edwards & Kelcey, where he was responsible for developing and managing projects related to mission-critical operations and infrastructure design and technology for private enterprise and public agencies. Earlier, as Director of Information Technologies for the Carlson Group, Inc., he developed and managed a systems integration business catering to financial, telecommunication, and media entertainment companies nationwide. He also held a variety of technical and product management positions during his years at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies. His achievements included: the introduction of prototype DSL enterprise access systems, the introduction of a server based subscriber registration system for cellular networks, product management of switching systems serving cellular and wireless markets, and development and product management of intelligent network systems for the international market. He received the distinguished AT&T Network Architecture Award for research and was the recipient of the AT&T Quality Award for his role in participating in quality improvement efforts. Prior to his role at AT&T, he was a Senior Staff Industrial Engineer for Union Carbide Corporation, where he developed Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for chemical production and distribution. There, he worked in the Linde Division’s National Logistics Center, where he developed models and systems to plan and operate the transportation, distribution and production of liquefied gases. He also helped to develop that company’s first National Logistics Operations Center. He was formerly the President of the Chicago Chapter of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He served on the technology committee for the Executive Club of Chicago, and is a member of the Princeton Club of Chicago. He was the recipient of the Department of Navy Superior Accomplishment Award for work pertaining to Navy vessel engineering. He is the author of several books, including the bestselling Mission Critical Network Planning (Artech House). He holds Ph.D., MS, and MA degrees in engineering from Princeton University, and MS and BS (Magna Cum Laude) degrees in Engineering from New York Polytechnic Institute. He has several professional certifications that include Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) from the American Society for Quality (ASQ), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) from the Institute for Continuity Management, Certification in Homeland Security (CHS-III) from the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, Member status in the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) in Great Britain, and a Project Management certification from IBM’s Systems Management Institute.
