| Ranganathan
joined UIC as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2001. At UIC, he teaches graduate
and under-graduate courses on e-business strategies, management of information
systems and information systems projects. He also teaches at the professional
development and executive programs at UIC. He has consistently obtained
excellent teaching evaluations in the courses he has taught. His research
interests include e-business transformation, e-business and information
systems strategies, IT adoption, assimilation, diffusion and organizational
impacts of information technology. He closely works with the industry in
his research as well as teaching activities. Ranga has authored over two dozen articles and his publications have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as Communications of the ACM, Decision Sciences Journal, Information & Management, International Journal of Information Management, Information Systems Management, Journal of Computer Information Systems, and proceedings of conferences such as International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) and Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences (HICSS). He has authored many case studies on different information technology issues. He is also a regular, invited columnist to some practitioner IT magazines . Ranga's paper on e-Business transformation won the first prize at the SIM International paper contest in 2001. His paper examining the growth of a B2B e-commerce firm won the third prize at SIM International paper contest in 2002. His doctoral dissertation on strategic IT decisions won the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award at the International Conference on Information Systems in 1998. His dissertation proposal won the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Award, and a $25,000 research grant in 1996. He stood first in his Masters program at the Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), India. His research has been funded by several agencies such as IBM, Center for Research in Information Management (UIC), Pontikes Center for Management of Information (SIU), and Center for e-Business and Center for Management of Technology at National University of Singapore. Prior to joining UIC, Ranga was an Assistant Professor of MIS at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Earlier, Ranga worked as a management consultant at Exeter Group, Cambridge (MA) where he was engaged in technical and management consulting projects. He has held research positions at National University of Singapore, and has been an adjunct faculty at a number of business schools in India and Singapore. Ranga has also consulted for several firms apart from working as a programmer in a software firm. Ranga holds a doctorate in management (MIS) from Indian Institute of
Management, Ahmedabad (1998), and a Masters in Science, from BITS, Pilani,
India. He is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and a Microsoft
Certified Professional. |
