Marketing Students Collaborate on Project with U.S. Department of State
In an effort to fill overseas internship positions in foreign embassies as well as Foreign Service and management positions, the U.S. Department of State turned to the students of Assistant Professor David Koehler's Advertising class. In this unique collaboration, Koehler's students created a fully operational communications and marketing agency for the Department of State. They conducted market research, created a communications strategy, and developed an ad campaign which was presented to both the U.S. State staff from Washington and an on-campus Diplomat in Residence. The students were granted a $2,500 budget to implement their campaign. This program was one of many examples of student/business ventures at UIC which bridge academic theory taught in class with hands-on contextual learning.
