Abby McWilliams Named Associate Dean, Academic Affairs

Dr. Abagail McWilliams, former managerial studies department head, has been named associate dean, academic affairs. She has served as acting associate dean since 2004. A graduate of The Ohio State University with a PhD in economics, McWilliams launched her academic career in 1985 at Ohio Wesleyan University. She spent six years as assistant professor at Texas A&M University before moving to Arizona State University West where she advanced to associate professor. From 1996 through 2000 she was director of MBA programs at ASU West. McWilliams came to UIC in 2000 as professor and department head of managerial studies. McWilliams has received numerous honors for her service and teaching, and her award-winning research is widely published. Much of that work is focused on corporate social responsibility. Most recently, she was one of three guest editors for a special issue of the Journal of Management Studies, and co-authored the journal's introductory paper, "Corporate Social Responsibility: Strategic Implications." Over the past five years at UIC, McWilliams has been instrumental in the increasing prominence of the CBA's Managerial Studies and MBA programs. In addition to highly successful new faculty recruitments, she oversaw the establishment of the entrepreneurship major for undergraduates and the continued success of the "Executive in the Classroom" program.
