Academic Programs

UIC's entrepreneurship program started 20 years ago in the College of Business Administration and includes a bachelor of science, a MBA concentration, and PhD seminars in entrepreneurship. For the past seven years, our entrepreneurship program has been recognized as one of the Top 25 in the nation by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. All students majoring in entrepreneurship are required to participate in consulting projects with local entrepreneurs to help their businesses achieve stability and growth. Students also assist entrepreneurs in writing and editing business plans, and many students launch their own businesses while in the program.

From PhD seminars to hands-on, practical learning, the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies has opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students and working professionals. Follow the links below to find the program that best suits your needs, or view the entrepreneurship course list.

  • Undergraduate: UIC offers a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship degree or a concentration in entrepreneurship for business majors.

  • Graduate: UIC offers an MBA concentration in entrepreneurship through the Liautaud Graduate School of Business. MBA students have the opportunity to start a company based on patents developed at UIC through the Technology Ventures Program.

  • Business Plan Competition: Students from any college at UIC can participate in the annual Concept2Venture business plan competition for $17,000 in cash prizes and even more in kind services.

  • Doctoral: UIC is one of the first universities to offer a doctoral seminar class on entrepreneurship research. The Institute also hosts a monthly brown bag lunch meeting to discuss research topics in entrepreneurship.

  • Certificate Program: The Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies sponsors a certificate program for business owners and managers.
