UIC MSA OVERVIEW
The UIC Liautaud MSA program integrates conceptual and technical knowledge with practical application to prepare individuals for careers in financial, managerial, governmental/non-profit, and international accounting, as well as auditing, information systems, taxation and business law. Graduates of the program will be prepared for professional examinations such as the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and the CMA (Certificate in Management Accounting) exams.
In order to complete the MSA degree, students must meet prerequisite requirements and complete 32 semester hours of approved graduate course work. Prerequisite requirements will be identified during the admissions committee review of an applicant file and academic transcripts.
The degree can be obtained on a part-time or full-time basis. Most courses are offered in the evening and meet once a week, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m..
Accounting undergraduates
Applicants with an undergraduate degree or coursework in accounting from an AACSB accredited institution may not need prerequisite courses and should be able to complete the MSA program in one year of full-time study. The minimum degree requirement to complete the MSA is 32 credit hours, or 8 courses.
UIC undergraduates who have graduated within a year of application may apply for guaranteed admission to the MSA program if certain criteria are met. Please refer to the GAMSA information for details.
Non-accounting/Non-business undergraduates
An undergraduate degree in accounting or business is not required for admission to the MSA program. Applicants without accounting and business preparation will be required to complete prerequisite coursework and should expect to complete the program in two years of full-time study. A grade of no less than a B is required on all prerequisite courses. Applicants who have not taken all of the breadth and background prerequisite courses may be admitted on a provisional basis (i.e., with limited rather than full status) and must complete the prerequisites within their first year of enrollment to retain their status in the program.
