Professor McDonald is one of the nation's leading scholars in the field of urban economics. He ranks number one in lifetime publications in the Journal of Urban Economics, and is North American editor of Urban Studies, one of the world's leading journals in the fields of urban economics and urban affairs. He is well known for his extensive studies of the economy and real estate markets of metropolitan Chicago. He received his PhD from Yale in 1971.
