UNIQUE PROGRAMS AND RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Through the Technology Ventures Program, LGSB students have won thousands of dollars at international business plan competitions. One of our teams recently went on to sell their firm to a venture capitalist. In fact, a LGSB team has twice been named Grand Champion at the prestigious University of San Francisco International Business Plan Competition.

  • In another outstanding performance, a LGSB team won the $10,000 first place award at the Licensing Foundation Graduate Student Business Plan Competition. Another LGSB team took second place honors in the annual contest, sponsored by the Licensing Foundation, Inc., an educational arm of the Licensing Executives Society, U.S.A. and Canada Inc. which works to raise awareness about the value of intellectual property or IP licensing.

  • The Global Moot Corp Competition simulates the real-world process of raising venture capital. It is the oldest new venture competition in the country and is widely considered the Super Bowl of business plan competitions. The LGSB team finished among the top eight out of 400 competing teams from across the country and around the world. In addition to the award they won as a semifinalist, our team also won awards for the Best Written Business Plan and the Best Presentation.

  • Another program that illustrates the LGSB's commitment to experiential learning, the Interdisciplinary Product Development Program, provides students with the opportunity to take a new product from conception to market in the span of one academic year. This program recruits corporate sponsors to work closely with LGSB student teams to provide an educational experience not normally found in a classroom setting. Our Interdisciplinary Product Development Team garnered the Mid-Continent East Regional Business Deans Association's 2006 Innovation in Business Education Award. Most recently, Motorola committed more that $50,000 to support LGSB student teams in the research and development of a mobile communications device.
