Economics

The economics department at UIC provides students with a solid foundation in economic theory and applied economics, and offers high-quality, innovative instruction. The department's focus is applied research, with special strengths in labor, health, urban and international economics. UIC Liautaud MBA students may pursue a concentration in economics or a joint degree MBA/Master of Arts in Economics.

Sample Courses:

ECON 519 - International Economics
Theoretical and empirical studies of economic development with intersectoral and international perspectives; structural change and resource reallocation; factor proportions, substitutability, and movement; export-led growth.

ECON 531 - Labor Economics I
Determinants of wage differentials; analysis of determinants and consequences of investments in human capital (schooling, on-the-job training, health); labor mobility, supply, and allocation of time.

ECON 572 - Urban Economics
Urban economic models and economic analysis of urban problems, including firm location, housing, transportation, and local public finance.
