UIC International Center for Futures and Derivatives
The UIC International Center for Futures and Derivatives was established in 2006 through a gift from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Trust. The ICFD has four primary objectives:
Foster research, education and innovation in futures and derivatives
Leverage existing connections between UIC, China and Chicago's financial exchanges
Promote a greater understanding of the role futures and derivatives play in risk management and economic growth
Prepare students for successful careers in futures and derivatives
FIN 512 - Portfolio Analysis
Development of portfolio theory; establishment of portfolio objectives; evaluation of portfolio performance; investment objectives for individuals, corporations, banks, pension and mutual funds, and their interrelation with economic environment.
FIN 516 - Theory and Structure of Options and Futures Markets
History and institutional structure of options
and futures markets. Uses of futures and
options for arbitrage, speculation, and hedging
by financial and portfolio managers of
domestic and multinational organizations.
Also analyzes factors that determine futures and options prices
FIN 530 - Money and Banking
The functions of money; monetary standards;
development and operation of
commercial banking and the Federal
Reserve System; theories of the supply
and demand for money; effects of
monetary changes on economic activity,
interest rates, and income.
MBA 590 - Chicago Exchanges
The leaders of Chicago's financial exchanges will appear as guest lecturers to discuss the past and future role of financial exchanges in the global economy. The course enables students to interact and learn from the country's most influential finance leaders in an informal yet informative classroom setting. Past speakers include: the president and CEO of the Chicago Board of Trade, CEO of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the president and COO of the Chicago Stock Exchange, and the chairman/CEO of the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
