CBA Dominates Nationwide Competition

Teams of undergraduate students from the UIC College of Business Administration claimed three of the top four spots in a nationwide competition organized by Divine Chocolate, a fast-growing, socially responsible company that produces Fair Trade chocolate bars using cocoa farmed in Ghana. Kristin Hetrovicz and her six Chocolatettes teammates took first place; Socially Sweet, a team of ten led by Jon Mavalankar, took second place in the competition; and a third team led by Luke Kukulka took fourth place.

The teams, which were comprised of students from Professor David Koehler's Advertising and Promotions course and Marketing Channels class, were pitted against thirteen others from around the country and tasked with developing an innovative marketing campaign to introduce Divine Chocolates on university campuses. The submissions were judged on their potential to increase long-term sales and educate students on Divine's efforts to alleviate poverty in Africa by implementing Fair Trade business methods.
