Program Overview
Outsourcing has become a hot topic of discussion in corporate boardrooms and meetings. Effective sourcing of
information technology (IT) and business processes (BP) has helped many businesses refocus on their core strengths,
reduce costs, streamline processes, and enhance their performance. From simple arms-length contractual agreements,
sourcing has evolved into a more complex phenomenon - involving multiple alternatives such as off-shoring, near-shoring,
in-house development, and multi-vendor management.
This course will expose the participants to contemporary thoughts in formulating and executing an effective sourcing
strategy. The sessions will help participants understand the current IT and BP outsourcing landscape, examine
alternative models for sourcing, assess organizational capabilities and processes that need to be insourced/outsourced,
and suggest a road map for implementing an effective outsourcing strategy.
The topics that will be covered include:
- Understanding the technology and business process outsourcing market
- Assessing a business to determine whether outsourcing makes sense
- Establishing organizational goals for IT and business process outsourcing
- Frameworks and tools for formulating a sourcing strategy
- Alternative models of sourcing - Insourcing, Outsourcing, Near-shoring and Offshoring
- Structuring an outsourcing deal
- Vendor assessment and selection
- Sourcing governance
- Project Management and Vendor Management
- Evaluating and reviewing sourcing strategy
Instruction methods include lectures, discussion of real-world sourcing case studies, and presentations by industry leaders on their experiences in IT and business process sourcing. This will draw upon articles, case studies and papers from the business press, incorporating current thinking and emergent concepts in IT and business process outsourcing.
