PhD Programs

The college's PhD program in business administration is the only program offered by a public university in the Chicago metropolitan area. It provides a supply of talented, well trained, high-quality researchers for Chicago.

Areas of Inquiry

  • The area of inquiry in business statistics combines an advanced program in statistics and a variety of business applications including accounting, economics, finance, marketing, MIS, operations management and real estate. Students are trained to use state-of-the art computer hardware and software. A second area of support is chosen from departments within the college.

  • The area of inquiry in human resource management, organizational behavior and entrepreneurship, emphasizes the strategic applications of knowledge, approaches and techniques in managing organizations and human resources in work place.

  • The area of inquiry in marketing allows for in-depth study of a variety of areas, including consumer behavior, international marketing, entrepreneurship, product development, choice models and information processing.

  • The PhD in management information systems focuses on an interdisciplinary business understanding of how technology can affect an organization's behavior, structure, and function and on the effective use and control of information and computer systems by management; both the technical aspects and the organizational impact of information management are stressed.


International business and electronic business (e-commerce) are taught in all areas of inquiry.
