"Getting Beyond Counting" Assignment

A classic article from the December 1996 issue of
Management Accounting Magazine (now called Strategic Finance)

The article “Getting Beyond Counting” (GBC) articulates a vision of the accountant as an information professional.  Read the article and then search the Internet for online articles that demonstrate concepts in GBC - SPECIFIALLY, FIND AN ARTICLE THAT ADVOCATES OR DEMONSTRATES THE ACCOUNTANT ACTING AS "ARTIST", "EDUCATOR" OF "VISIONARY" IN THE BUSINESS CONTEXT.  Accounting journals and websites are replete with articles that describe accountants functioning in the artist, educator or visionary role.  They also contain informational or training pieces that give the accountant tools to work in one of these roles.

Assignment:  Download the GBC Homework page available below (in MSWord format).  Give the name of the article, the name of the periodical (publication) in which it appears, and the URL (web address) of the article (make sure the URL works and goes directly to the web page).  Then, in the discussion section, WRITE 2 PARAGRAPHS.

Before you submit your assignment, RENAME IT, this way: YourLastName.docx.  (I would submit Popowits.docx).  Then, submit your assignment to the Assignments link on the Blackboard site for Accounting 474.  Title the homework: "YourLastName - GBC".

NOTE: REMEMBER THE UIC HONOR CODE AS YOU BEGIN THIS HOMEWORK.  Find you own article; do your own work.
