In creating this piece, I chose a cracking heart filled with escaping
light in order to symbolize my personal problems and my victory
over them. The heart was meant to appear hard and rocklike –
like a prison that completely seals the prisoner and holds him/her
captive – while the cracks and bursts of radiant light were
intended to show my final victory over and escape from the confines
of my personal problems. This would allow my spirit in the form
of light to venture out into the world to explore its mysteries.
Overall, this piece made me reevaluate my emotions and my past,
which have all contributed, either in a beneficial or harmful way,
to the person I have now come to be.
