Autobiographical Comics make a great project for any age level. Often teaching and practicing drawing in art classes is about perception—drawing as a way of seeing. Comics focus students on another equally valid use of drawing in the art curriculum—drawing as a means of communication. Because so many contemporary comics are drawn in “primitive art” styles, students who don’t see themselves as good at drawing can still participate fully in using drawing as medium for telling stories about their lives.
