These sample projects were created a few weeks after the September 11 tragedy. The Spiral Workshop Express Yourself! group had planned to pilot the Newspaper Ground project in the fall of 2001. At first, it seemed almost too intense to create a project based on the newspaper pages of that time. Then we decided that it was the perfect project for such a time because the project doesn’t ask students to make a statement about the events (what could one say?), but instead created the opportunity for students to consider and respond in artistic, non-linear, non-verbal ways.
