Re: Computer Requirements for Arch 220 Spring 2004
This memo is being sent to
all undergraduates, and is directed toward students who plan to enroll in Arch
220 Computer in Architecture next semester, in spring 2004.
In order to enroll and
participate in Arch 220 Computers in Architecture this spring you must purchase
and bring with you the following:
1. PC laptop computer: this has been
mandated by the School of Architecture and is required for participation in the
class.
When purchasing your laptop,
it is very important that you pay attention to the specifications the school
has published for laptop hardware so that your equipment will function well in
the school now, and throughout your studies.
We highly recommend the Dell
computers our technical staff tested and specified. You can look at and order the models we put together for you on
the Dell website, as well as general required specification on the school’s
laptop web page:
http://www.uic.edu/depts/arch/laptop/
2. AutoDesk ACES
University Student Software Bundle: this package includes most of the software
you will use in the class, including AutoCAD 2002 with Architectural Desktop
3.3, VIZ 4.0 and access to other sample software.
· The software price is $199.00 for a 1-year
license.
· Bring a check made out to “University of Illinois at
Chicago” to Jim’s Mckay’s office is in the school’s office in 3100 Art and
Architecture.
· Due to ordering parameters, we will be placing orders
for the software by the end of finals next week, so you need to purchase the
software now to have it in time for the beginning of the spring semester.
· The last chance to purchase the software will be on
the first day of class, so if you miss the finals week deadline, you will need
to bring a check to the first day of class, January 12, 2004.
· Questions can be directed to Jim Mckay (jjmckay@uic.edu) or myself (avstern@uic.edu).
