If you need a 1/4" = 1' plot of a floor plan, and you would like the plotted text height to be 3/16", use the table to find the size of text in Model Space. According to the table, your text in Model Space should be 9" tall.

 

Procedure for calculating other text sizes in different scales:

It isn't rocket science to calculate text sizes for scales other than those listed above. The best way to do it is via this formula:

(desired text height to be plotted) / (output drawing scale) x (1/12) = model space text height.

example:

<1> (3/16") / (1/4" x 1/12) = (3/16) / (1/48) = (144/16) = 9"

<2> (1/4") / (1/60" x 1/12) = (1/4) / (1/720) = (720/4) = 180" or 15'
