• In humans, sexual maturity occurs at the onset of puberty, usually from 12 to 16 years of age - there is a great deal of variation for the onset of puberty, both within populations of humans, and among different populations of humans.
• Just for perspective, most animals reach sexual maturity much more quickly: a fruit fly reaches sexual maturity after 10-14 days, Norway Rats take about 3 months, but the European eel takes 4-14 years for males and 10-20 for females.
