Why50% Males?
Male members of a species produce many more gametes than females. Why, in most species, are there the same number of male and female individuals?
This is not always the case, however, in some wasps, such as the parasite Melittobia femorata, there may be as many as a hundred females for every male.
Likewise, many sequential hermaphrodites have highly skewed sex ratios. A group of several blue wrasses will have only one male.
In panmictic, sexually reproducing populations, 50% males is the rule, however Even hermaphrodites average 50% male function and 50% female function.
