Making sense of sequences

• The genetic code has a ‘start’ codon and 3 ‘stop’ codons.

• An Open Reading Frame (ORF) has hundreds to thousands of bases between a ‘start’ and a ‘stop’.

• Searches for ORFs are done with computers

• It is much harder to identify genes in eukaryotes because most genes have exons and introns.
