• Don't Panic!

SPH Online Course Help: This course makes extensive use of the Internet. Basic information for students is provided in the SPH Online Course Help feature. Technical problems (and solutions) experienced by students in previous offerings of CHSC 400 are available in a catalog of student questions and issues.

UIC Computer Resources: In addition to the SPH Online Course Help feature, the U of I Online Support site and the UIC-ADN site also provide important resources and information about the University's Computer Network---especially if you do not have a UIC computer account and netid! You will also find important information about the Network Services Kit that will allow you to connect to the UIC computer network from your home or another remote location.

The features used in this course require students to have a UIC netid and establish a password that will allow access to their UIC e-mail account, Blackboard courses, and other services. This is especially important for the course evaluation (CEQ) process that occurs at the end of each semester, which sends the CEQ and CEQ email reminders to the student's UIC email account. Since some students don't use their UIC email address, instructions are provided below for forwarding your UIC email to your preferred email account.

• Activate your email account at https://tigger.uic.edu/htbin/cgiwrap/bin/webpbrw/autocr 

• Automatically forward your UIC email to your preferred email account (e.g., hotmail, yahoo) at https://tigger.uic.edu/htbin/cgiwrap-auth/bin/phupdate.

Don't Panic! There may be occasions when you will not be able to access the CHSC 400 web site and/or the course Blackboard site. Various error messages may appear, including one that says the requested page cannot be found. If this happens, do not panic! It may be that the server is down due to a system or network problem that prevents access. Try again later is the best advice! Your instructors check these web sites regularly and we will generally know when this occurs (and conversely, we also know when someone tells us there was a problem when there wasn't.)  If an assignment is due and you are unable to access the Forum because the network or the server is down, DO NOT SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS BY E-MAIL, FAX OR PHONE!! Wait an hour or more and try again. If the problem persists, wait until the next day and submit your assignment at the proper conference site in Blackboard.
