CHSC 400 - Public Health Concepts and Practice
(3 SH - Completely Online and Blended Learning Formats)
CHSC 400 provides an overview of the philosophy, purpose, history, organization, functions, tools, activities, and results of public health practice. There are no prerequisites. Enrollment is restricted to public health students; other graduate and professional students may be admitted as space permits by contacting the SPH Registrar (Renita Moore-Shannon).
CHSC 400 is a 3 semester hour course that is offered each semester in both completely online and blended learning formats using the campus Blackboard Learning System. There are no required in-class sessions for completely online learners; there are 7 class sessions during the semester for students in the blended learning format. Relevant information is provided in the course Syllabus. Course materials and discussion boards are available only through the UIC Blackboard system. An optional orientation session will be held during the first week of each semester, generally on the same day and at the same location as the first in-class session for blended format learners. Additional information will be provided in e-mails to course registrants a week or so before the semester begins. This orientation is not necessary for most students, but is offered to assist those who would like to become more familiar with the technical aspects of the course and/or meet the course instructors. The primary course instructor is Bernard Turnock.
