OFFICE HOURS: 2-4 PM Wednesdays in 3077 ERF

This course provides a comprehensive overview of biogeochemical processes relevant to environmental scientists and engineers mediated by microorganisms. Topics discussed will include: biochemicals, catabolic and anabolic reactions, cell structure, microbial and enzyme kinetics, molecular biology, prokaryotic diversity, methods for characterizing microbial cultures in the environment and laboratory and microbial ecology. Students will write a critical review of three related scholarly papers in the broad area of environmental microbiology.
