Use of Haptic Simulators in Periodontal Procedures.
| This program is being
developed at UIC to train students to acquire skills in the following periodontal
procedures:
• using a periodontal explorer to evaluate the sub-gingival root surface

| using a periodontal probe to evaluate periodontal pocket depth, bleeding sites and attachment loss. |
|
| using scaling instruments to remove calculus deposits on the tooth/root surface. |
|
This is an ideal application of the haptic device since this training is mainly tactile in nature.
