Read Appendix 16B of the handout. Obtain Tables 16B.1 and 16B.2 by SPSS as follows.
[1] Start SPSS for Windows, and open AVERY.SAV file.
(Select FILE, then OPEN, choose the appropriate directory, double-click AVERY.SAV.)
[2] Run the first regression.
The dependent variable is ATTAVRY = v16 + v17 + v18 + v19 + v20, and
the independent variable is v41.
(Select TRANSFORM, then COMPUTE. Name the target variable as ATTAVRY. The Numeric Expression is " v16 + v17 + v18 + v19 + v20 ". Then click OK. A new column named ATTAVRY should appear. Now, select STATISTICS, then REGRESSION, then LINEAR... Choose ATTAVRY for Dependent, and v41 for Independent. Method should be ENTER and Case Labels should be blank. Click OK.)
[3] Run the second regression.
The dependent variable is ATTAVRY, and
the independent variables are v41, v42, D2, D3, D4, and D5.
(Select TRANSFORM, then COMPUTE. Name the target variable as D2. The Numeric Expression is " v43=2". Then click OK. Repeat for D3, D4, and D5 with the Numeric Expression " v43=3", "v43=4", and "v43=5", respectively. Four new columns named D2, D3, D4 and D5 should appear. Now, select STATISTICS, then REGRESSION, then LINEAR... Choose ATTAVRY for Dependent, and v41, v42, D2, D3, D4, and D5 for Independents. Click OK.)
[4] Edit the two outputs and obtain the print out (If there is alignment and wrap-around problems, use small COURIER fonts). Add an interpretation for each regression in one sentence.
