211 LAB REPORT WRITE-UP FORMAT
1. Cover Page (5 points): Include course name, experiment title, student's name, lab section and date of the experiment.
2. Introduction (5 points): Include statements of the purpose or the objectives of the experiment - general background information can be included.
3. Data and Results (10 points): Include the experimental data and all the parameters calculated from measurements in tabulated form. Figures or graphs should be in this section.
4. Discussion (20 points): Results from the previous section are discussed and interpreted with respect to the relationship between reality and theory. The graphical results (if and) should be discussed and comments should be made on possible causes for either discrepancies or agreements between theories and experimental results.
5. Conclusion (5 points): Do not summarize the report. Conclusions are a formality, but necessary, in which you can indicate any major points you want to make in your report. Conclusions should refer back to the objectives of the experiment.
6. Appendix: should consist of two parts:
a) Calculations (10 points): Sample calculations should be in this section. You must perform the necessary calculations for one set of data only. The symbols or variables used in the calculations must be defined here. The derivations of all analytical formulas (if any) should be included.
b) Questions (15 points): The questions asked in the lab manual should be answered in this section. You may want to use them as a source material for your discussion.
IMPORTANT:
* If time allows, lab sessions may have a simple quiz at the end. The quiz will be about the experiment. The quiz, attitude, and report quality (cleanness, preparation, etc.) contribute up to 30% of your lab grade.
* The reports are due 2 weeks after the lab. Late reports will not be accepted.* If you can not attend a particular lab session, inform your TA of your absence in advance and arrange another lab session. This practice, however, needs proof for excuse.
* Reports should be clearly written on 8.5´11" size white paper with pen/typewriter/computer. Reports written in pencil will not be accepted.
* While drawing graphs, do not forget label the axes and use either graph paper or the ready forms at the back of you lab manuals. Do not use white paper. Do not connect the data points on your graphs but draw the best-fitting curves or lines.
